Question:
I am looking to get a new car shortly and this means having to change
the garage door. The current door is a canopy style and because of its
arc of travel at the front of the garage it would collide with the new
vehicle I am considering.
I'm thinking about replacing the canopy door with a roller door. Just
wondered whether anyone had any useful comments about installing a
roller door?
Answer:
Depending on width you will need between 275mm and 350mm clear space above
door and in roof space to accomadte the rolled up door.
Thermaglide are extremly easy to install and come with good instuctions for
a diy install, they are also insulated.they do not depend on a spring for
opertion
The other type from steel-line or henderson are not in my opinion your
average diy install type as the spring tension needs to be set by the
installer and can be tricky if instructions are not followed, and also they
look cheap and are cheap
They wear out and then often jump the track.
Replacements are generally available at garage door installers and probably
at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. I replaced the whole set on mine and found that
the ball races on the replacements are much better quality than came with
the door.
