Question:
I just got my garage floor and driveway concrete re-poured. But the new
floor level is about 1-2" higher than before. The garage door can't be
closed completely. So I think I have to cut the bottom of the door. It's a
sectional roll-up door with torsion spring above the door. Cable anchors
fixed to both sides of the bottom. To cut the 1-2" at the bottom, I have to
take off the anchors first. I have no experience with this. Is it a
do-it-self project?
Answer:
Torsion spring is for professionals only ... very dangerous ... you can get
seriously hurt if you don't know what you're doing ... I guess I don't
understand why the door won't close completely. Wouldn't the door just rest
'higher' on the ground than before?
the sheet metal rails that the door rollers go into and roll on have to
be unbolted from the frame around the door and then moved up two inches,
when you do this you might also have to move the top rail up 2 inches
also. when you do this the door will be 2 inches higher and will also be
in the closed position with the top of the door flush with the door
frame. if you cut 2 inches off the bottom of the door you only going to
weaken it and the metal parts that go into the bottom of the door that
hold the cables to the springs will not have anyplace to go? you could
also cut the two inches from the bottom of the concrete that you poured
on the driveway thats in the way but then you will have a gulley that
fills with water and rot the bottom of the door panel. a garage should
be about 2 inches above the driveway so that water does not go into the
garage, the garage door sits on the this 2 inch lower level........
