Question:
Is there any place I can find a replacement remote garage door transmitter for
my sears craftman garage door opener? The door opener was installed in 1980 and
for years I had a maiteneance agreement until I learned how to do the routine
maintenance.I have tried sears parts and they say they cannot help me since the
door opener is so old. Now we have only one transmitter for the entire
household.
I am hoping I will not have to buy a new opener just to have more than one
remote.
Answer:
You probalby have what we have a frequency on the remote that is not
manufactured any more..... the FCC made them stop using the frequency
for garage door openers, your only choice is to get a used one and then
set the little switches in it to the same frequency as yours... i tried
Home Depot and got another brand, did not work, went to sears and tried
theirs, no good.. i called up sears parts and they could sell me a
reciver and two transmitters for about $80.00 they say its the
replacement for this opener..... i went to sears and bought one and
attached it to the garage door opener... it was suppose to work... and
it kina worked... you had to be in the garage to use the remotes.. the
range of the thing was terrible.. i thought it was maybe a weak battery
in the remote.. i changed the battery and no good.. i took it down and
brought it back to sears..... your next step might be to go to a local
garage door company and see if they can sell you a receiver/ remote
converter for about $80 and it should come with 2 remotes(or you can buy
extras)... and a receiver... where i used to work they just attached up
the new receiver to the commercial garage doors and used both types of
remotes, they have about 15 old ones and about 10 new ones for the
employees and the old ones will make the door work and the new ones will
make the door work.....
hope this helps.
